Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
A practice built on
steady, considered work.
Saksama Counsel was established to serve families and individuals navigating inheritance matters — a field where clarity and patience matter as much as legal knowledge.
Back to HomeOur Story
How Saksama Counsel came to be
Saksama Counsel was founded in Kota Kinabalu with a specific intention: to provide legal services in estate and inheritance matters that feel proportionate to the people involved. The name reflects that intention — saksama carries a meaning of fairness, balance, and even-handedness in Malay, qualities that describe both the work and the way the practice operates.
Inheritance matters often arrive at a difficult moment. A family may be adjusting to a loss, dealing with relationships under strain, or simply uncertain about what their legal position actually is. The practice was designed to meet people in that situation with patience rather than pressure, and with clear written explanations rather than verbal reassurances.
The office is based in Wisma Sabah, a well-established address in Kota Kinabalu, and the practice focuses exclusively on inheritance and estate work. That focus means the knowledge brought to each matter is specific rather than divided across multiple unrelated fields.
Our Mission
To help families and trustees navigate inheritance matters with reliable legal guidance — delivered plainly, documented thoroughly, and conducted without unnecessary pressure on any party.
What We Value
Clarity in written advice. Patience with the process. Honesty about outcomes. Respect for all parties in a matter, even when they hold opposing positions.
Where We Work
Our practice is based in Kota Kinabalu and serves clients across Sabah. We are familiar with the local court system, community family arrangements, and the specific legal context of estate matters in the state.
The People
Those who handle your matter

Rosita Daud
Legal Executive
Rosita manages documentation, correspondence, and client coordination across all matters. She is often the first point of contact for new enquiries and returning clients.
Practice Standards
How we conduct our work
These standards guide every file in the practice, regardless of the type or size of the matter.
Malaysian Bar Registration
All counsel at Saksama are members in good standing of the Malaysian Bar. Practice is conducted in full compliance with the Legal Profession Act 1976.
Confidentiality by Default
Legal professional privilege applies to all client communications. Confidentiality is not optional or conditional — it is a standard of practice maintained from the first enquiry.
Advice in Writing
Significant advice is confirmed in written form. Clients receive a written record of assessments, recommendations, and agreed next steps — not just notes from a meeting.
Impartial Mediation Conduct
In mediation engagements, the practice maintains impartiality. No party to a family mediation receives advocacy; both parties receive fair facilitation.
Client-Led Decisions
Counsel advises; clients decide. No decision about how to proceed in a matter is made without the client's informed agreement. This applies at every stage.
Data Protection
Client data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). Data is retained only as long as necessary and is not shared with third parties without consent.
Inheritance legal services in Sabah
Saksama Counsel operates from Kota Kinabalu and focuses on three areas: mediated estate distribution agreements, ongoing trustee compliance counsel, and representation in contested will proceedings. The practice works with individuals and families at various stages of an estate process — some at the beginning, trying to understand what their options are, and others who have already encountered difficulty and need representation.
In Sabah, estate matters can be shaped by a combination of civil law, customary arrangements, and family history. The practice brings knowledge of local court procedures and familiarity with the particular circumstances that arise in Sabah estates — including matters involving land held under native customary rights, multiple-generation family distributions, and cross-community families with varied religious and civil legal considerations.
The practice does not offer a broad range of services. That is by design. Staying within the inheritance field means the depth of experience brought to each file is specific rather than general. Clients dealing with estate and trust matters receive advice from counsel who work in this area every day, not as an occasional addition to another primary practice.
